NOTE: This is a first rough draft of the process, phrasing will be improved
Installing BeatSketch
- Download BeatSketch for your platform
- Unzip or Untar the bundle, and run the
BeatSketchLauncherexecutable - Note: BeatSketch is not currently signed using a signing certificate. Thus, you are likely to get a warning on Windows. You can click run anyway, or download the source.
Preparing the Audio
Since BeatSaber is a Music-Focused game, the audio is important. The
BSMG Wiki
has a great guide for audio setup.
Take your doing this properly, because adjusting this later is a lot of work.
-
Determine the song's BPM (e.g. with
bpmfrombpm-toolson Linux, or check out Arrow Vortex. The BSMG Wiki has great resources) - Open an Audio editor (such as Audacity), set the BPM you just got in the bottom left, and ensure that Audacity is set to Beats and Measures using the gear icon, then open the audio file
- Line up the bars with the song, by listening to the song and aligning the peaks in the audio with the beat. An easy way to check if you have got it right is to enable the metronome.
- Make one or two bars of space at the start of the song (minimum 2s, max 8s, for long intros, maybe shorten the intro). To make your live easier, you can enable snapping in the toolbar at the bottom.
- The BPM should now line up perfectly with the song.
- Export the song as an Ogg Vorbis Files, making sure to export the whole project and to not select "Trim blank space"
Launching BeatSketch
As already mentioned, to launch BeatSketch, start the BeatSketchLauncher executable.
You can create a new map by clicking the Create New Map button. Please note that the cover file, i.e. the
image that is displayed in Beat Saber must be a PNG, as that is the only format BeatSaber supports.
Fine-Tuning the map
At this point, you will likely have noticed that the map that was generated is not perfect. You can now switch to a desktop editor to refine the app. For a usage guide on them, refer to the BSMG Wiki.
